Sponsor Spotlight: Lake Country Fiberglass Repair

This month, Stroll Inside the Gates spotlights Lake Country Fiberglass Repair (formerly David’s Boat and Jet Ski Repair). Lake Country Fiberglass Repair offers Georgia’s Lake Country with a service that most boat owners are all too familiar with, fiberglass repair. David’s exceptional services extend to all kinds of boats and jet skis, and they boast seamless and high-quality cosmetic repairs that leave your boat looking good as new!

Before we go into more detail about what this incredible business provides, let’s learn where it all began and how the founder, David Carnes, started this lucrative venture.

In the fall of 1993, David Carnes made a decision that would forever change his life. He began a new job in Fiberglass Mold Repair for a facility that built tubs and showers for the largest manufacturer of mobile homes in the southeastern United States. “I was eager to learn all I could about fiberglass and was able to hone my skills over a 3 1/2-year period,” recounts David. “Then in 1997 I created my own sub-contracting company to work on boats and jet skis for other fiberglass companies and boat dealerships. As most of the local dealerships now choose to ship their work off to facilities hours away, my focus is to offer the residents of Lake Country a better option. I strive to offer my clients the same quality work as I have provided for decades without the long wait times and high markups. There is no job too small or too big, and I am happy to come to where your boat or jet ski is located to give a free estimate.”

Lake Country Fiberglass Repair specializes in everything from small cosmetic gel coat repairs to heavily damaged fiberglass repairs from impact. A typical day includes grinding out damaged fiberglass and the installment of new fiberglass and regel coating with the correct factory color. There are a plethora of steps involved, and a major repair may take as long as 2 to 3 weeks from start to finish, but usually repairs will be completed within one week. Compared to other boat repair companies, David’s has a very quick turnaround, allowing boat owners to get back on the water as soon as possible.

Services Offered by Lake Country Fiberglass Repair

Fiberglass Repairs: Covers both minimal and extensive damage. Due to the need to assess the structural integrity of the boat, prices will vary depending upon the severity of the damage.

Gelcoat Repairs: This will treat a vast array of damage that may occur to the gelcoat, the additional protective layer on a vessel. Prices are assessed per individual unit.

Boat Repair: Includes repairs to general damage to hulls, floors, transoms, etc. This includes stress cracks, air voids, delamination, impacts from objects, warranty repairs, storm damage, operator errors, among others.

Jet Ski Repairs: Covers fiberglass damage from other jet skis, docks, rocks, stumps, etc. This includes damage to hulls, sides and the tops of jet skis.

“Because I have worked closely with most dealerships in the area, it is quite possible that I have already repaired your boat or jet ski, operating under the name David’s Boat and JetSki Repair,” adds David. “As we look to expand in the near future, I made the decision to rebrand to Lake Country Fiberglass Repair. We are now focusing on expanding our reach to more clients within Georgia’s Lake Country. As a resident of this amazing community, I have witnessed huge changes as undeveloped land has transformed into a busy landscape.” Because of this growth, expansion is necessary for the business to keep up with the increased demand, especially during the summer months when everyone wants to be out on the lake.

“My feedback from clients has always been overwhelmingly positive, which continues to feed my desire to offer the best quality work. My goal is to meet the growing demand while staying consistent and true to the quality craftsmanship that has sustained my company for decades. Nothing is more rewarding for me than seeing the look on a customer’s face when they cannot even spot where a repair was made.”

David’s community involvement doesn’t stop with his work repairing your boat or jet ski, as he also gives back in an even bigger way. “When I am not repairing boats, it is very likely I have a fire hose in my hand,” David continues. “I have been fortunate to serve as a volunteer firefighter for the past 15 years for Putnam Fire Rescue. As a certified firefighter and EMT, there is no greater privilege than to help those in need. It has been my honor to serve the citizens of Georgia’s Lake Country, and this has been a journey that has been more rewarding than anything else I have ever accomplished.”
