Family Spotlight: Meet The Myers Family
By Josh Hudson
This month, Stroll Inside the Gates spotlights the Myers family. Lindsey Myers grew up in Chattanooga, TN, while Chris Myers spent most of his childhood in Carmel, IN, before eventually moving to Daphne, AL, in high school. Lindsey and Chris both attended Auburn University, where they graduated with Bachelor's and Master’s degrees in accounting.
Believe it or not, Lindsey and Chris did not meet while at Auburn, as Lindsey was a freshman when Chris was in grad school. After Lindsey graduated, Chris happened to be her new-hire instructor at her first job after college. “We didn’t start dating right away,” Lindsey recounts. “But after almost a year, we finally gave in, and the rest, as they say, is history.”
Lindsey and Chris have been blessed with three wonderful children, Kate (11), Ellie (9), and Emma Grace (7). All the Myers kids attend Lake Oconee Academy and are very athletic, loving to stay as active as possible. Kate plays club soccer for the Madison Area Youth Soccer League and basketball with Lake Oconee Academy in the Northeast Georgia Feeder League. Ellie loves tennis, golf, and cheer! She has a weekly tennis lesson with a group of her friends, and she has also started weekly golf with a mentor from LOA. She participates in cheerleading through the school as well. Emma Grace, who just started 1st grade, loves cheerleading and can’t wait for her chance to shine! She is quite a tumbler already, loving to do cartwheels and other tricks wherever and whenever.
Both Lindsey and Chris started their careers in the audit practice at PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers) in Birmingham, Alabama, before eventually moving to Atlanta. Once she found out they were expecting their first child, Lindsey decided that she would focus on raising their children. Now, Lindsey primarily manages the Myers household and their children’s activities, but she also teaches group fitness part-time at FitCo (by the pyramid). She is certified in Les Mills Bodypump and Bodyattack, Mossa Group Power, and AFAA group fitness. Lindsey is an ISSA Certified Personal Trainer, and she is very passionate about helping others through fitness and nutrition.
Chris is a partner at PwC within their Deals practice. He advises clients in the financial services sector on complex accounting and financial reporting issues around deals and other transformational business events. Getting back to Lake Oconee after a work trip or drive to his office in Midtown is always a welcome relief for him.
After years in Atlanta, the Myers family knew they wanted to find a new school for the kids, so they started looking at options around the city. “We knew we had to be reasonably close to the Atlanta airport, since Chris travels frequently for work,” Lindsey adds. “The lake area and Lake Oconee Academy were brought to our attention by a friend of ours in the city. After some research and a visit the very next weekend, I was ready to move immediately! When the school acceptance lottery eventually came through, we dropped everything and rented a townhome so that our oldest could start at LOA in the fall. Our middle daughter spent 3 years at Gatewood and truly loved it, but when she was finally accepted for LOA, we decided it was best for our family to finally have all three children at the same school. Given the opportunity to move here, eventually send all the kids to a wonderful public charter school, and be in a neighborhood my husband also enjoys was an easy decision!” The Myers family has now called Reynolds home for a little over 4 years.
In their free time, the Myers family loves to get out on Lake Oconee. “Having grown up in Chattanooga near Lake Chickamauga, I always dreamed of living near a lake,” adds Lindsey. “Now, watersports reign supreme in this family, and Chris dutifully obliges us. On weekends warm enough for the water (with or without a wetsuit), you can usually find me slalom skiing in some capacity, whether with a friend I met at a local ‘Ladies on the Lake’ event several years ago or with the whole family. I also enjoy wake surfing, and I am always working on new tricks! Over the past few years, I’ve somehow convinced all three girls to love watersports as well! Kate and Ellie both learned to wakeboard, wake surf, waterski, and have even learned to slalom ski with a deep-water start. After years of watching her big sisters put on a show, Emma Grace learned to wakeboard this past summer as well, and there’s no stopping her now! I truly cherish the opportunity to raise kids on the water - there are so many wonderful life lessons that are implicit in learning to do Watersports. There’s inherent fear, the process of overcoming the fear, successes and celebrations, inevitable failure (but no big deal, just try again!), and always something new to try or to perfect. And you get all of this while also spending time with family and friends and having fun on the water. I love teaching both my friends and the kids’ friends how to do various watersports, and I hope to pursue that in a more formal capacity in the coming years.”
When she’s not on the water or in the gym, Lindsey enjoys playing tennis and pickleball (with friends or the kids). She can often be found playing at the Landing recreation area. In Chris’s free time (when he has time), he enjoys running and golfing on the many gorgeous courses around the lake. The whole family also really enjoys being outdoors, so they are always looking for new places in the area to explore. They enjoy going over to Rock Hawk for hikes during the fall and winter, and recently, they have been visiting nearby state parks such as Hard Labor Creek, Indian Springs, and High Falls. The Myers family also proudly attends Christ our King and Savior Catholic Church, where Chris is on the finance committee and Kate is an altar server.
