Neighbor Spotlight: Meet Becky Reynolds & Ross Whitworth

Becky is a happy Five Points resident, now retired after her 18 years of service as a house director for sororities at the University of Georgia (UGA), Louisiana State University (LSU), and Southern Methodist University (SMU). Before moving to Athens 19 years ago, she resided in Johns Creek, where she dedicated her time as a full-time mom and community volunteer. She began her career as a home economist with the Georgia Extension Service and later became the Director of Students at the Atlanta School of Design. Additionally, Becky and a close friend co-founded Imports with Attitude, a company specializing in designing and importing hand-carved wooden walking sticks from Costa Rica, which provided alternatives to the conventional utilitarian options available at the time.

Upon deciding to retire, Becky sought the perfect living arrangement in Athens—the Five Points area. She reached out on a local platform, expressing her desire to become a dream renter. This led to her connection with Ross’s dad, Kenny, marking a significant and positive turn in her life as she felt a strong bond with the family due to their shared southern values.

Becky’s roots in Athens run deep; her parents lived in UGA Married Housing shortly after her mother graduated, while her father was completing his degree in agricultural engineering. After her birth in Carrollton, the family returned to Athens until her father graduated. Becky graduated from UGA with a degree in interior design and a Bachelor of Science in home economics, further grounding her ties to the community. Becky is a devoted mother and grandmother. Her daughter, Katie, resides in Nashville with her husband, Harrison, and three children: Harry (12), George (10), and Annie (8).

Becky is a beach enthusiast and a passionate traveler. “I travel as much as possible. I’ve been very fortunate to visit lots of very cool places; washing elephants in Thailand, riding a camel across the desert and glamping in Morocco, and climbing Mt. Sinai are some favorites. I’m headed to Croatia in the spring with four sorority sisters!”

An avid sports fan, she holds season tickets to UGA sports, supports the Braves, and follows any NFL teams featuring UGA alumni, but never supports Auburn. Her musical tastes include The Beatles, Spanish guitar, George Strait, and Blake Shelton. Becky is actively engaged in social activities, playing duplicate bridge, attending CBS Community Bible Study with a group of ladies from Five Points, and enjoying performances at the UGA Performing Arts Center.

Connecting with friends through book clubs and gardening activities is a favorite pastime. Her community involvement includes being an alumnae collegiate advisor for Ritual and Lifelong Membership of UGA Tri Delta, serving as immediate past president of the Rose and Dahlia Garden Club, and participating on the Executive Board of the University Woman's Club and the Athens Road Runners.

Becky cherishes the Five Points neighborhood for its welcoming people and excellent location. She enjoys various local establishments, such as The Pine for quick, delicious bites and exceptional wine; 5 & 10 for happy hours; Marker 7 due to her connection with the owner; and George’s Lowcountry for Sunday brunch. For special occasions, she often orders custom cookies from Chris’s Creative Cookies, highlighting her appreciation for local specialties.

Ross is currently a junior at the University of Georgia (UGA) pursuing dual degrees, finance in the Terry School of Business and sports management through the Mary Frances Early College of Education. He is also a licensed real estate agent actively selling residential homes in Jefferson, the town where he was raised. Ross believes that graduating from Terry Business School will open numerous career opportunities for him, particularly as he aspires to attend law school. His goal is to leverage his combined knowledge of finance and sports management to become a sports agent.

In addition to his academic pursuits, Ross is involved in various recreational activities, including playing intramural kickball and dodgeball at UGA, as well as participating in a men's softball league. He loves sports and has fond memories of attending the Rose Bowl where Georgia defeated Oklahoma. He also loves to travel, having recently celebrated his 21st birthday in Las Vegas with his parents. Looking ahead, he is excited about a family trip to Italy in the summer of 2026 and has been accepted to study abroad in Oxford next summer as well.

Ross maintains a strong connection to his roots, supporting all Atlanta sports teams and the University of Georgia. When discussing his favorite seasons, he expresses a preference for golf season and football season and even coordinates a fantasy football league to maximize the football fun! He enjoys golfing with friends and his dad, Kenny. Family traditions, particularly a large Thanksgiving celebration at the beach along 30A, are fun with his younger sister, Henslee, who is a 10th grader at Prince Avenue Christian School.

To relax, Ross engages in golf and enjoys watching his favorite series on Netflix. His hobbies extend to coaching middle school baseball at Prince Avenue. This academic year, he also serves on the UGA Relay for Life Executive Board, taking a lead role in accounting and personal fundraising efforts. When asked about his favorite aspects of the Five Points neighborhood where he resides, Ross appreciates its proximity to various amenities and mentions his favorite local businesses, Fully Loaded Pizza and Jenni’s Ice Cream.
