Student Spotlight: Hunter Bailey
Hunter Bailey means business. With school back in session, he’s one of the few prepared to brave the mountain of papers, math, and projects headed their way. Whether he’s hitting the books or dribbling down the pitch, Hunter brings an unmatched attitude of drive and determination, and Stroll Inside the Gates couldn’t feel more privileged to bring his story to the page.
Together with his parents, younger brother Colt, and younger sister Blakely, Hunter moved to Reynolds in 2019. Today, he’s tackling his sophomore year at Lake Oconee Academy. Hunter’s favorite subject is World History, which is taught by his favorite teacher, Coach Donaldson – a perfect combo. “I enjoy learning about history, and Coach Donaldson makes learning fun!” says Hunter. LOA’s English Language Arts program, on the other hand, might not be Hunter’s favorite subject, but that didn’t stop him from improving into excellence over the years. This ability to apply himself to anything, whether he enjoys it or not, is truly one of Hunter’s superpowers – and his academics are just the first example.
When he isn’t studying, Hunter is a force to be reckoned with on the soccer pitch. He plays on the varsity team at LOA, for a soccer club, and often for fun on the soccer fields in Reynolds whenever he has free time. “My dad inspired me to play soccer by spending time with me and teaching me the game”, he recalls. Hunter has since kindled that flicker of passion with years of dedicated practice, turning what was once a backyard hobby into a serious aspiration to go pro.
However, if he decides not to become a pro soccer player, Hunter has plenty of other careers to choose from, thanks to his hard work in school. His first choice is to major in law at one of the top programs in the United States, offered by Penn State, and continue to become a lawyer. But ultimately, Hunter has his eyes set on a more broad, equally challenging goal – to improve. “My biggest motivation in life, whether it’s for school, work, or sports, is the constant desire to improve and grow each day”, he states.
Hunter’s life isn’t all so intense, though, despite his drive for excellence. When he isn’t dribbling around defenders or deskbound for the day, Hunter loves relaxing with some video games and hanging out at 3Natives Acai and Juicery here in Greensboro. “I also love living close to my friends!” he adds.
There's no denying that Hunter Bailey is an especially driven student and athlete. His story is filled with examples of excellence and testifies to his hard-working spirit. With that quality, he’ll find there’s no limit to what he can achieve.
