Scratcher’s Creek was founded by Josh Newsome and Jeff Kent, multi-generation farmers on adjoining family farms. Their Dads were first cousins and dedicated cattle farmers, and they still farm the same property their fathers farmed in Warren and Glascock County, Georgia. In this historical area, a strong spring welled up from the ground. Native Americans camped there for generations, and more recently, revolutionary and civil war battles were fought in efforts to claim the creek and fresh water supply. The original Native American name for this creek, KANUGU’LA, translated to “Scratchers” in English, so when it came time to name the store, Josh and Jeff could think of no other name that spoke directly to their heritage. From there, Scratchers Creek Market was born.

In addition to their expansive collection of meats and seafood, Scratchers Creek Market’s locally baked goods also set them apart, as they offer various bread and other treats to top off the perfect meal. Each Thursday, the store offers fresh focaccia, cheese and herb artisan, plain artisan, and various cookies. They also offer various cakes, pies, and custom desserts baked in-house throughout the week. Scratchers Creek also offers a variety of specialty services in and around Georgia’s Lake Country. First is their limited low country boil catering – this includes choice ingredients of shrimp, crab, crawfish, mussels, clams, potatoes, sausage, corn, onions, and just about anything else you want them to throw in the pot! Second is their limited oyster roast catering, complete with fresh oysters shucked, steamed, and/or roasted at your place, including sides and refreshments. Last but not least, the market’s experienced butchers are available to custom-cut your meat to your specifications. They also offer meat preparation services, such as marinating and seasoning.
