March 2025 Student Spotlight: Garrett Glass
This month, Stroll Inside the Gates is thrilled to highlight one of the lake’s most diligent students, Garrett Glass. Garrett, alongside his parents, twin sister Lauren (who was our student spotlight just a few months ago), and older sister Nicole moved to Reynolds around seven years ago. Ever since then, Garrett’s relished his countless opportunities in aviation, athletics, and even entrepreneurship – always seeking out a tougher challenge for his determined, hardworking spirit.
Garrett’s academic career is a straightforward example of this. He enjoys work-based learning as a more practical mode of studying, allowing him to get hands-on experience in business building and other real-world applications. As a senior, he’s enjoyed lots of time with a variety of teachers, but it’s those who’ve pushed his limits that share a special place in his heart. His favorite is Ms. Keetah Singleton – “She’s always made herself available and taken the time to help me push myself both inside and outside the classroom to be the best version of myself”, Garrett says.
It’s the same drive to exist outside of your comfort zone that allows Garrett to succeed in so much – along with honor-roll academics, he partakes in an assortment of clubs, many of which have recognized him for his diligence. He’s received a BETA club state convention award, been named a Rotary Club Boys State Representative, and garnered quite a few state swim awards. Garrett’s consistency with the Boy Scouts earned him the title of Eagle Scout, and completing various fitness and leadership tasks in the Civil Air Patrol allowed him to receive the Wright Brothers Award. He’s also a member of the Chick-fil-A Leadership Academy and spends his weekends volunteering at churches and charities around the lake.
When he isn’t busy training for Cross Country or the Reynolds Rapids Swim Team, Garrett works on growing and managing his company. “My biggest hobby is my work”, he admits. “I’ve grown my odd jobs business, G&G Solutions, from the ground up. I’ve employed 6 of my friends on an hourly basis to help do jobs around the lake area. Whether it's moving, landscaping, junk removal, or hanging Christmas lights, we do it all.” Garrett credits his dad, Bart Glass, with teaching him what it takes to be a successful business owner. “He inspired my passion for entrepreneurship, as he’s spent his whole life in the business world. He taught me what it means to be an honest, hard worker, and I would be nothing without him and his wealth of knowledge.”
Even with his successes in business, Garrett knows that he can’t get too comfortable, and is still seeking to challenge himself. “After High School, I will be pursuing my passion to serve my country by joining the United States Marine Corps”, he states. “I will be pursuing my degree in business while serving.” He plans to spend his initial 4 years aiming to try out for Marine Corps Special Forces (MARSOC). “I chose this path because of the reputation of the Marines and the challenge it represents to accomplish this goal.
As is clear by now, Garrett will stop at nothing to overcome challenges, bettering himself and others in the process. That indomitable, driving force has to come from somewhere – and for Garrett, that place is his faith. “My biggest motivation in life is God”, he states. “As I try to grow my faith stronger every day, I constantly turn to God’s word to look for guidance or a solution to any problems the day brings me.” Altogether, Garrett’s firm foundation in faith, complemented by his eagerness to overcome hardships, creates astounding results – those that should command nothing but respect and honor from those around him.
