Do you know what hidden gems your neighborhood library holds? The Athens-Clarke County Library goes far beyond books to provide a tremendous number of events and resources designed to engage our communities. Here are just a few of the ways we’re sure to exceed your expectations!
Book Clubs: The library can help you connect with fellow book lovers and explore new literary worlds through our book clubs! From After the End (books that feature post-apocalyptic, dystopian, or alternate history themes), to Armchair Historians (a new nonfiction group from the Heritage Room, perfect for history enthusiasts), to Talking About Books (popular fiction of all kinds), whatever your interests, we offer a club to match. The Bogue Gallery: Looking for a quiet space to enjoy visual art while reading or studying? Step into the Bogue Gallery, a serene space on the library's second floor, where you'll discover captivating rotating exhibitions by talented local artists. Starting Sunday, November 9th, prepare to be enchanted by "Over and Under: Woven by Athena Weavers," a beautiful exhibition featuring an array of handwoven textiles, from elegant table linens and stylish wearable goods to breathtaking artistic expressions.
Archives and Special Collections: Unearth your roots and delve into history with the Archives and Special Collections Department! Located upstairs in the Heritage Room, you'll find a treasure trove of non-circulating local history, genealogy, and southern history books, microfilm, and archival materials. Whether you're a seasoned researcher or just starting your journey, their dedicated team can help you take your genealogical and historical research further than ever before.
Live@the Library: Looking for great music and great community? Join us for Live@the Library, the free concert series sponsored by the Friends of the Library, where we celebrate our vibrant local talent. We're excited to host two must-see performances this December, both starting at 3:00 p.m.:

Passport Services: Planning for international travel? We're here to help you get ready! The Athens-Clarke County Library offers complete services for acquiring or renewing your U.S. passport. We can guide you through the entire process, including having your photo taken and ensuring you have all the necessary documentation. To schedule a time with one of our certified Passport Acceptance Agents, please call us at 706-613-3650.
Storytime: Our Children’s Department is always a lively hub for kids of all ages and their caregivers. Beyond our incredible collection of children’s literature, our talented librarians host an enchanting Storytime throughout the week. Join them for stories, songs, puppets, movement, and so much more. Even with all this to offer at our Baxter Street home, the Athens Regional Library System is so much more than our main branch! We're a vibrant network connecting communities across five counties: Athens-Clarke, Oconee, Franklin, Madison, and Oglethorpe. Here in Athens-Clarke County, we're proud to have five locations to welcome you, including our libraries in Winterville and Pinewoods, and our community hubs at Lay Park and Aaron Heard. And the best news? We’re growing! We’re thrilled to break ground on the highly anticipated Eastside Athens Library soon, and we'll be counting down the days until it opens!
