Charlie Upchurch receives the distinguished Silver Beaver Award
Charlie was the recipient of the Northeast Georgia Boy Scouts of America Silver Beaver Award. It is the highest form of recognition that a local council can bestow on a volunteer. In 1931, BSA President Mortimer L. Schiff recommended to the national board that an award be devised for recognition of distinguished service to youth in the area of a local council, and the concept of the Silver Beaver Award recognition was established. Charlie's father was also the recipient of this distinguished award. Lawton Stevens, Athens Superior Court Judge and fellow Silver Beaver recipient, had the honor of presenting Charlie with his award. The presentation of this year’s awards were made at First Baptist Church - Gainesville. Congratulations to Charlie and all the other recipients for all they continue to do for Scouting and their communities.
