Neighbors Helping Neighbors Named Finalist for AACF Nonprofit of the Year
Neighbors Helping Neighbors, Inc. (NHN) has been named a finalist for the Athens Area Community Foundation’s 2025 Nonprofit of the Year Award, an honor recognizing organizations that demonstrate exceptional leadership, innovation, and community impact across Northeast Georgia.
The Athens Area Community Foundation (AACF) selects finalists from nonprofit organizations serving Athens-Clarke, Barrow, Greene, Jackson, Madison, Oconee, and Oglethorpe counties. According to the Foundation, finalists stand out for creativity, leading with heart, and a deep commitment to strengthening their communities through both big ideas and everyday impact.
AACF is a 501(c)(3) community foundation that serves as a hub for regional philanthropy, helping individuals, families, and businesses establish charitable funds, guide strategic giving, and support nonprofits addressing critical needs across the region.
The nomination punctuates five years of significant growth and community impact for NHN. Founded in 2020 by a small group of local volunteers who recognized unmet needs in the community, NHN has grown from a grassroots effort into a trusted nonprofit serving Greene and Putnam Counties. In just five years, NHN has completed more than 280 critical home repairs, delivered over 30 car repairs and 40 replacement vehicles, and provided over 750 beds to children without one of their own.
“When we started Neighbors Helping Neighbors, we thought if we could complete 20 projects a year, we’d be doing great,” said Bob Massey, President of NHN. Thanks to the generosity of the Lake Country community, in just five short years, we’ve impacted over 2,800 lives, and having that work recognized by the Athens Area Community Foundation is deeply gratifying.”
The AACF and Athens Area Chamber of Commerce will announce the 2025 Nonprofit of the Year honoree in February 2026.
NHN is powered by a growing membership of more than 300 supporters, along with dedicated volunteers, community partners, and local businesses - all working together to ensure neighbors in need have the resources to thrive.
