Family Spotlight: The Powers Family

Originally from the Dallas/Fort Worth area, Susan and Mark Powers first discovered Reynolds in 2006. Like many, they were immediately captivated by the natural beauty of Georgia’s Lake Country—but for them, it was more than just a scenic escape. “There was just something about this place,” Susan recalls. “The pace of life, the people, the feeling—we knew it was special.” That feeling never faded, and in 2015, they officially made Reynolds their home.

Since then, the Powers have fully embraced all that the community has to offer, bringing with them a deep sense of purpose and a love for meaningful connection. Susan, who has a background in financial services, spent over 17 years with Fidelity Investments before co-founding AssetGrade, LLC, a fee-only investment advisory firm. She holds a master’s in finance and economics, is a CFA, CFP®, and CPA, and helps clients plan with clarity.

Mark, now retired from BNSF Railway, is passionate about sports cars and a self-taught culinary enthusiast between his days on the golf course.  The Atlanta Motorsports Park (AMP) in Dawsonville, Georgia, with a 2-mile road course, is another great benefit of living in lake country.

When they’re not relaxing on the porch or catching up on neighborhood news, the Powers love spending time with Susan’s mom, Marvel Downing, who also moved to the area in 2015 and now lives in Del Webb. They are avid supporters of local businesses and take pride in watching the continued growth and energy throughout Lake Country.

Community involvement is a meaningful part of Susan’s life. She’s an active Board member of the Greene County Chamber of Commerce, Ferst Readers, Circle of Love, Inc., and 100 Women Who Care, and enjoys contributing to causes that help strengthen the area.

When asked what they love most about Reynolds, their answer is simple: balance. A beautiful home, a close-knit community, and opportunities for recreation, relaxation, and rewarding work—all just a short drive from Susan’s office in Parkside Commons.

For Mark and Susan Powers, living at Reynolds Lake Oconee is more than just a place to live—it’s a lifestyle that reflects what matters most: meaningful connections, a sense of purpose, and everyday moments they truly enjoy.
