Family Spotlight: The Mauro Family
This month, Stroll Inside the Gates spotlights the Mauro Family, residents of Reynolds for the last 10 years. Steph Mauro was born and raised in Bismarck, North Dakota, but she moved to San Diego after graduating from the University of North Dakota. Jeff Mauro, on the other hand, was born in California, though he went on to live in Telluride, CO, and Tucson, AZ until eventually moving to San Diego to attend the University of San Diego.
Jeff and Steph first met in San Diego after they both began working for Aalto Scientific Ltd, a company founded and run by Jeff’s family. The couple now has three children: Jack (10), Isaac (8), and Nicholas (5). The Mauro household also wouldn’t be complete without their two adorable pets, Duke (a King Charles Cavalier) and Kylo (an orange and white tabby that the family rescued off the street).
Jeff and Steph still work for Aalto, though the company is now based in Eatonton. Jeff is the company’s COO, while Steph works as the Quality Assurance Director. Aalto’s relocation is actually what brought the Mauro Family to their new home inside the gates! Despite the shock of a cross-country move, the Mauros have thoroughly enjoyed the company’s relocation, as they love living in Georgia’s Lake Country. Steph particularly enjoys the tennis and gym facilities, and she is quite fond of the new spa at Richland Point. The kids love using the slides, ordering food at the Lake Club, and tubing on Lake Oconee. The Mauros are also grateful that they found a great church here, as they are proud members of Lake Oconee Church.
Raising three very active kids and working full-time leaves little for extra hobbies, but when they get a chance they love to take advantage of the options they have here. Steph enjoys playing tennis, running, reading, and playing Mahjong, while Jeff’s primary hobbies include clay pigeon shooting and golfing. The two oldest Mauro boys love to play baseball, and both Jack and Isaac are part of a travel team; they both also play rec basketball, and they plan to play football in the fall. The youngest, Nicholas, has begun playing sports, starting with soccer, but he is very ready to try out baseball this spring.
The Mauro family frequents Richland Pointe Restaurant for the exceptional food (especially the sushi) and the spacious lawn overlooking the lake where the kids love to play. The family’s other local dining favorites include The Ritz, Cafe 44, 3 Natives (where they highly recommend the Acai bowls), and Amore Del Lago (their favorite local restaurant). For shopping, Steph frequents Soiree At The Lake, Empire South, and Lake Oconee Outfitters.
